Birth: June 1894 Burragorang, NSW, Australia Death: 24 May 1917 (age 22) 29th Casualty Clearing Station, Somme, France, Died of Wounds Cemetery or Memorial: Grevillers British Cemetery, France Father: William James PIPPEN ( - 1941) Mother: Ellen HAYES ( - 1947) Vincent's occupation was Miner when he enlisted in Dubbo in April 1916 and served in the 54th Battalion A.I.F. His parents lived at Yerranderie. He departed Sydney on the 'Boorara' 19 August 1916 and arrived in France via England 15 December 1916. His cousin Oswald Francis Pippen served from 7 May 1915 in Gallipoli and then France where he was twice wounded and returned to Australia in April 1919. His cousin (Private 7070) Maurice Patrick Duffy was killed in action in 1917 in France. Private Vincent Francis PIPPEN received multiple gunshot wounds in action in France on 15 May 1917. He died on 24 May 1917 at the 29th Casualty Clearing Station Somme France age 22. |
